3 Days Best Safari Moments in Murchison Falls National Park

The Itinerary

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met and welcomed by an assigned Maraka Tours & Safaris guide. You will drive straight Murchison Falls National Park on Bombo - Luwero - Gulu highway, through Nakasongola dry corridor before reaching Nakitoma Township which is a branch off point to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Stop over at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park. Register and get briefing in preparation for Rhino trekking. These are the only Rhinos in Uganda that are in the wild. Guided by the Rhino fund guide, trade them on the foot which is a very good memorable engaging activity.

After tracing the Rhinos, drive to the selected Restaurants en-route to Murchison Falls NP for Lunch. Drive via the main gate of Kichumbanyobyo, this time through Kaniyo- Pabidi forest.  The eastern sector of Budongo forest is rewarding with plenty of forest birds, and primates such as baboons, Blue and black Colubus monkeys before reaching the escarpment that will welcome you with a fantastic view. 

Viewing the top of Murchison Falls      

We shall create time for the top of the Murchison Falls which is the center piece of this park. These very dramatic falls are arguably the world’s most powerful. The bottom of the falls is great but the top is quite something! This is where the world’s longest river squeezes through a very narrow gorge and cliff of about eight feet and drops for a straight forty feet down! You have an opportunity to see the violent compression through the narrow gorge creating a continuous roar into devils cauldron creating a trade mark rainbow. We never plan to miss this adventure on any of our tours that get to this part of the country and here we shall scan and photograph the rock pranticoles after here drive to the lodge to check in for overnight.

After early morning breakfast, start driving within the northern part of the park, through this Palm lofted vegetation for the best wildlife safari experience in this Savanna Park. Here in Murchison Falls National Park, you begin your journey into the soul of Africa. It is a journey defined by evocative stirring of all your senses at the same time when you witness the residents of this park, never to be forgotten sights and safari moments. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and afterwards, drive down for the boat cruise at 02:00 pm.

Afternoon Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

After lunch, drive down to the river for the afternoon boat cruise up stream to the bottom of Murchison Falls. It gives you an opportunity to view the permanent residents of the river; such as, Hippopotamus, crocodiles, just meters away, enjoy the scenic view of Nyamsika Cliff the breeding grounds for pied kingfishers, Red throated Bee eaters, and many other wildlife.

This three hours boat cruise provides you with the tranquil sun downer as you cruise back offering the classic view of an equatorial sunset reflected on the river. This is one of the most and unforgettable experience as the boat move just along the banks of the river to see animals and birds the frequent visitors of the river such as elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, baboons, warthogs. This is a rewarding experience, enjoyable and memorable. Drive back to the lodge for overnight.

After breakfast, drive to Bugungu Community. This activity takes you through the journey of discovery of the lives of the local people, meet the local farmers, and see their traditional way of life, meet the reformed poachers, visit the organic gardens of cassava, and orchards of organic fruits, visit the traditional medicine man’s shrines, visit the traditional bee keeping project, and see how honey is traditionally harvested and also learn the African Art of bee husbandry, get welcomed by the vibrant performance of music and dance of the local people. It is a wonderful glimpse of life. Afterwards drives back to Kampala via Masindi.

Transfer back to Kampala

Transfer back to Kampala, via Masindi town with stop overs for photographs and at the selected restaurants, for lunch before proceeding to Kampala.
